There was a house
Built on love
Strong in the beginning and
Full
Time weakened it,
For those inside
Lost themselves
In the business of being
Human
The walls cracked
The paint chipped
The flowers all died
The people stayed a while
And as they did
Their smiles fell, and
Their hearts sank
They began to drift mindlessly
Far from one another
Being consumed with promises
Of a more perfect tomorrow
A better love
A more beautiful life
No one took the time
To tend to the house
Their remedy
Was to move on
Rather than fix what
Had been broken
So,
In came a new family
Who brought love
With them
A family who
Filled the cracks
Painted the walls and
Planted memories
With much attention
The home grew strong
Because they took the time
To help mend the chips and cracks
Of the heart and
Weed out
What threatened their family's
Beauty
